It is also a hot, tropical country and the weather varies dramatically by region and season.  Deciding when to visit is crucial based on what you would like to do. When the southern tip is being soaked in monsoon rain, the far north will be covered in snow. Hence, the climate will have significant bearing on when you’ll want to travel. The tourist season in most parts extends from October until March — this is when the weather is at its best.

The climate varies according to elevation. Snowfall from late December through to early February can cause problems even in the hill stations of Shimla and Darjeeling.
